APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Following a VMRELOCATE from a z/VM 7.1 to a z/VM 7.2 system, the
relocated guest no longer belongs to their assigned RESPOOL.

When this problem occurs, issue the QUERY RESPOOL or QUERY
CPUPOOL command to display the status of your RES/CPUPOOLs and
the number of guests assigned to them.

Local fix

  • Issue the SCHEDULE command to put the guests back in the proper
RESPOOL/CPUPOOL following the completion of the VMRELOCATE
    command.

PEVM66496 Relocation of a guest from an SSI member running z/VM
7.1 to one running 7.2 causes it to be dropped from a RESPOOL.
Live guest relocation from a 7.2 member to a 7.1 member or
between two 7.2 members does not cause this problem.

The problem was caused when a field called VDEAPFWL was added by
APAR VM66496 to z/VM 7.2 in the VDEMSG DSECT defined in HCPRLE.
This increased the size of the equate called VDEPLMLN by four
bytes. That equate is used to determine if the message from the
source system is long enough to include RESPOOL information.
Because that equate's value increased on 7.2 with the addition
of that code, the eligibility check message from the 7.1 member
appears to not be long enough for the RESPOOL information, even
though it is. That equate definition should always be
    positioned just after VDEPOOL.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix moves the new VDEAPFWL field after the VDEPLMLN equate
in the VDEMSG DSECT in HCPRLE.
