This APAR provides z/VM support for the IBM z16 family and
allows guests to use the following facilities:
      - Neural Network Processing Assist Facility
      - Processor Activity Instrumentation Facility for
        Cryptographic Functions (CPACF) Counters Support
      - Breaking-Event-Address Register Enhancement Facility
      - Reset DAT Protection Facility
      - Vector-Packed-Decimal-Enhancement Facility 2
      - Consolidated Boot Loader to IPL guests from a SCSI LUN
      - RoCE Express3 Adapter for guest exploitation of Routable
RoCE, Zero Touch RoCE, and SMC-R V2 support
      - The Crypto Express8S (CEX8S) Adapter shared and dedicated
        guest support
      - IBM Adapter for NVMe 1.1, supported on IBM LinuxONE
only. z/VM provides guest exploitation support. In
        addition, z/VM 7.3 supports defining Fixed-Block
Architecture (FBA) EDEVICEs on IBM Adapter for NVMe
        devices.

Additionally, support for CPU/core topology location information
is included in z/VM monitor data.

Comments

  • This APAR provides z/VM support for the IBM z16 family and
allows guests to use the following facilities:
       - Neural Network Processing Assist Facility for embedded
         artificial intelligence acceleration.
       - Processor Activity Instrumentation Facility for compliance-
ready CP assist for Cryptographic Function (CPACF)
         counters.
       - Breaking-Event-Address Register Enhancement Facility to
facilitate the debug of wild branches.
       - Reset DAT Protection Facility, which provides a more
efficient way to disable DAT protection.
       - Vector-Packed-Decimal-Enhancement Facility 2, which
delivers new instructions that are intended to provide
         performance improvements.
       - Consolidated Boot Loader to IPL guests from a SCSI LUN with
or without the DUMP option. The GUEST is required to have a
minimum virtual memory size of 768MB.
       - RoCE Express3 Adapter for guest exploitation of Routable
RoCE, Zero Touch RoCE, and SMC-R V2 support.
       - The Crypto Express8S (CEX8S) Adapter shared and dedicated
         guest support.
       - IBM Adapter for NVMe 1.1, LinuxONE only.

Additionally, support for CPU/core topology location information
is included in z/VM monitor data to provide a better picture of
    the system for diagnostic purposes.

    Requisite or related APARs:
The PTF for APAR VM66504 provides infrastructure support in
z/VM 7.1 and 7.2 for the IBM z16 family and must be installed
on all the members of an SSI cluster before any member is IPLed
    on the IBM z16 family.
Additionally, the PTF for APAR VM66206 provides
infrastructure support for z/VM 7.1 and must be installed
on all members of an SSI cluster before any z/VM 7.1 member
of the cluster is IPLed on the IBM z16 family.
Both PTFs are included in the base of z/VM 7.3.
