  In some use cases, large VARY ON RDEV commands have led to
  noticable command response time that has resulted in timeout
  conditions to programs using the VARY command.  This has
  particularly been reported by GDPS users during xDR
  initialization processing.
  

Problem conclusion

• VARY ON RDEV has been updated to handle the processing of
  specified devices in parallel.  After initial lookup and
  checks of a specified device, a thread is created to do the
  majority of the work required to vary the device online.  This
  allows this processing to take place for many devices at a time
  and significantly decrease the response time of the command.
  
  The help file for VARY RDEV has been updated to describe a new
  QUIET operand for VARY ON/OFF.  This operand prevents general
  non-error response messages from being issued by the commands in
  order to reduce the command output to only essential messages.
  
  Minor help file updates related to these changes will be made
  to QUERY HYPERSWAP in the next release in development.
