    ****************************************************************
    If a logical processor fails to unpark, a variety of error
    conditions including an ABENDSRN005 may result from incorrect
    handling of the unparking failure. Errors may arise when the
    target of the unpark begins to process the unpark request but
    does not complete before a timeout condition occurs. When
    this happens, the target processor may enter an inconsistent
    state, which can lead to a variety of abend conditions or
    other anomalies.

Problem conclusion

  • Code is added to CP to track a logical processor through the
    various stages of an unpark request. If an error is detected
    during unpark of a logical processor, this additional state
    information is used to determine if the processor can be
    recovered or if CP has lost control of it. When a processor
    can be recovered, the processor state information is corrected
    and normal error recovery will take the processor offline;
    CP will remain running. If the processor cannot be
    recovered, then a new abend, ABENDHIP009, is taken immediately
    for purposes of first failure data capture.
