Error description

  • Customer experienced a SDV001 abend after a Unplanned Hyperswap
    was triggered and successfully completed.
Normally, the 001 abend is a SOFT abend.
But if encountered again while z/VM is in
the middle of processing one of the same
type, z/VM will treat the second as a HARD
    abend. This prevented the controlling
system of the Hyperswap from completing
    the RESUME phase.

    ****************************************************************
A hard ABENDSDV001 was taken due to several logical subsystems
failing PPRC related recovery following an unplanned Hyperswap.
Recovery I/O to these devices failed due to the problem which
    prompted the Hyperswap.

Problem conclusion

  • ABENDSDV001

The failing recovery is of the type that it could be deferred to
a later time rather than taking the ABENDSDV001. The code for
the abend will be removed which will allow the associated
recovery routine to always complete without the previous risk of
causing an outage for the entire system.
