VM65998: POLLING TOO FREQUENT WHEN CRYPTO IS INACTIVE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• VM65716 altered the limits for frequency of polling for CRYPTO
  activity. The maximum polling interval allowed was decreased
  resulting in more frequent polling and higher system overhead
  when there is little to no CRYPTO activity.

  Code was added with APAR VM65716 to change the minimum and
  maximum delay times for tasks which process crypto hardware
  functions. The maximum delay time was reduced, which affects
  performance of z/VM systems which are not using crypto hardware.
  z/VM systems without crypto hardware will have better
  performance with the maximum delay time which was used prior
  to VM65716.
  

Problem conclusion

• HCPKAU is changed to restore the maximum crypto delay time to
  its value prior to VM65716.
