    ****************************************************************
With the introduction of EAV minidisk support by CP APAR
VM65943, CMS needs to tolerate EAV minidisks. CMS continues to
support minidisks of 65519 cylinders or less, thus the CP EAV
support has no affect on regular CMS minidisk support. There are
two areas in CMS which need to tolerate the larger EAV minidisk
    support. These areas are

    1. MAPMDISK mapping services which allow mindisks to be mapped
to an address space owned by a virtual machine. EAV minidisks
defined at or above 65520 cylinders are not allowed.

    2. The DIRMAP command needs to recognize minidisks defined with
a size of 65520 or larger.

Comments

  • The CMS support for EAV minidisks consists of updating the
MAPMDISK mapping services and the DIRMAP command to tolerate
minidisks defined at or above 65520 cylinders. The changes
    consist of

    1. CP does not support MAPMDISK IDENTIFY for an EAV minidisk
that is defined at or above 65520 cylinders on a DASD
volume. Because of this restriction, the CMS Shared File
System (SFS) server was updated to detect this new error
condition in the use of data spaces. Any user storage group
minidisk in the file pool that resides on an EAV minidisk
must have the end extent of the minidisk below 65520
cylinders in order for the server to be able to create and
use data spaces. You will receive a warning message if all
or part of any minidisk resides at or above 65520 cylinders.
Server processing continues, but any attempt to access any
data space eligible directory in the file pool will result
in no data space being created.

    2. The DIRMAP command is updated to allow the mapping of any
3390 minidisk up to 1,182,006 cylinders.

The following publications have been updated to reflect
    these changes:

GC24-6161 z/VM: CMS and REXX/VM Messages and Codes
         - Message DMS3072W is updated to reflect data space
restrictions on an EAV. The DMS3072W HELPMSG is
           updated with this change.
SC24-6166 z/VM: CMS Commands and Utilities Reference
         - Usage note 2 in Table 1 under the DIRMAP command
is updated to account for EAV. The DIRMAP HELPCMS is
           updated with this change.
SC24-6167 z/VM: CMS File Pool Planning, Administration,
                       and Operation
         - Added a new section to Chapter 14. "Using Data Spaces":
"Restrictions for Using Data Spaces on Extended Address
Volume (EAV) Minidisks." This new restiction states

Any user storage group minidisk in the file pool
that resides on an Extended Address Volume (EAV)
minidisk must have the end extent of the minidisk
below 65520 cylinders in order for the server to
be able to create and use data spaces. You will
receive a warning message if all or part of any
minidisk resides at or above 65520 cylinders.
Server processing continues, but any attempt to
access any data space eligible directory in the
file pool will result in no data space being
             created.

    3. The STSIUSE sample EXEC is updated to add the Firmware
       Identifier to STSI 1.1.1 output
