Support required in z/VM V630 for ESA/390 Removal
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of z/VM * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** The IBM z13 will be the last z Systems server to support running an operating system in ESA/390 architecture mode. All future servers will support only operating systems that run entirely in z/Architecture mode when running in a logical partition. This APAR (VM65856) enhances z/VM to run in z/Architecture-only environments.

Comments
This APAR (VM65856) enhances the z/VM V6.3 CP hypervisor (CPLOAD), the Stand-Alone Program Loader (SAPL), and DASD Dump Restore (DDR) to run entirely in z/Architecture mode. Stand-alone dump support for environments that run entirely in z/Architecture mode requires APARs VM65921 (CP) and VM65922 (CMS). You should regenerate CPLOAD, reinstall SAPL via the SALIPL utility, reinstall DDR and Stand-Alone Dump so your system is ready to run on a z/Architecture-only machine. Note that IPLable installation DVDs from z/VM V6.3.0 will not IPL on z/Architecture-only machines. z/VM V6.4.0 is required to IPL from DVD and install z/VM on z/Architecture-only machines. CP Commands and Utility Changes SALIPL The SALIPL utility documentation is changed to describe that x'2000' is the default ORIGIN address when SAPL runs in a z/Architecture-only environment. CP QUERY PROCESSOR The CP QUERY PROCESSOR command documentation is changed to show "GENERAL" as a possible value for the PARTITION MODE setting in the command response. CP Message Changes A new variation is added to message HCP6507E: - HCP6507E Multithreading could not be enabled because the logical partition mode is GENERAL The User Response of existing message HCP9000W was changed to delete information that is not relevant on modern processors and direct the operator to take a stand-alone dump. Information in the User Response of existing message HCP9007W about taking a dump was enhanced. The explanation of existing message HCP9012W was changed to delete information that CP must switch back to ESA/390 mode. The explanation of existing messages HCP9020W/HCP9021W were clarified to explain when the message identifier can be used. Also, information in the User Response about taking a dump was enhanced. A new variation is added to message HCP9030W in order to show that the Stand-Alone Program Loader (SAPL) also uses this message. Information in the User Response of existing message HCP9035W that explains what value should be specified for CP's load origin was enhanced. A new variation is added to message HCP9037W in order to show that the Stand-Alone Program Loader (SAPL) and Stand-Alone DDR also use this message. A new variation is added to message HCP9039W in order to show that the Stand-Alone Program Loader (SAPL) also uses this message. Information in the Explanation and System Programmer Response of existing message HCP9049W that explains the load origin was corrected. The wording of existing message HCP9041W stays the same but its Explanation and User Response will change in order to reflect the new places in CP that use it. The User Response of existing message HCP9049W was changed to add the term GENERAL as a valid LPAR Partition Type. HCP9061W is no longer used by CP or SAPL but is now used by old Stand-alone dump to tape (HCPSAD). New Message HCP9062W is issued when a program loaded by SAPL or CP Bounce Processing encounters a program check before that program has extablished its own Program New PSW Information regarding this APAR will be added to: V630 z/VM: General Information V630 z/VM: Migration Guide
