Error description

  • A timeout may occur during a z/VM Hyperswap if the PDR lock
is obtained. If this happens the Hyperswap will fail.

A Hyperswap occurs in a SSI environment. The SA-MP Linux proxy
machine will issue QUERY SSI. If VM is far enough along in
the HS the PDR volume could be quiesced. This could cause the
I/O issued to the PDR volume on behalf of the Query SSI command
to be queued. This will cause the Hyperswap to timeout which
will cause the Hyperswap to fail.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been added to HCPPLQ and HCPPDR to check if the
system is in a Hyperswap state when a Q SSI command is issued.
If the system is in a Hyperswap state this will prevent it
from stalling and subsequently failing. Also, a read I/O done
on behalf of a Q SSI command to a ENABLED for Hyperswap device
will not be allowed to trigger a Unplanned HS through HCPIOJAQ
should the I/O encounter errors. HCPPDR will flag the read I/O
so Auto-Quiesce processing will stop the trigger. This will
    prevent a Hyperswap from stalling.
This apar will also be adding code to the SVMREC. In addition
to the information already supplied when a Auto-Quiesce record
is built we now supply the IRB and sense data if available.
This is being done to improve on first failure data capture.
HCPIOJ will also be updated to move the RDEVDRAN field during
    a Hyperswap SWAP.
