Error description

  • ABENDXLK001 occurs after a dynamic I/O CRW event that deleted/
added a device at the same device number. The virtual
configuration associated with the old device definition was
not cleaned up and caused an ABENDXLK001 during logoff
    processing.

    PROBLEM 1
    ------------
ABENDXLK001 occurs after a dynamic I/O CRW event that deleted/
added a device at the same device number. The virtual
configuration associated with the old device definition was
not cleaned up and caused an ABENDXLK001 during logoff
processing. ABENDPRG006 and ABENDHTT001 have also been seen
    in this type of scenario.
    ------------
    PROBLEM 2
    ------------
After CRW events that deleted/added a dedicated dump device
at the same device number, the dump device is left in the
    DRAINed state and is unusable.
    ------------
    PROBLEM 3
    ------------
After a CRW event that deleted HyperPav alias volumes and
caused an unplanned hyperswap of the the HyperPAV base
volumes in the same pool, HyperPAV alias device were not
found attached to the system, ready for use on the destination
    system of the Hyperswap.

Problem conclusion

  • ---------------
    SOLUTION 1
    ---------------
    PEVM65416 ABENDXLK001 ABENDPRG006 ABENDHTT001
Processing that handles a CRW which indicates that a device
has been added to the configuration (HCPRFCDC) was modified
when it finds an existing RDEV for the device. Currently,
the RDEV is quiesced and deleted in HCPRFCDC (possibly
orphaning an associated virtual configuration), so that a new
RDEV can be created and used for the new instance of the device.
Instead, HCPRFCDC will now remove the existing RDEV from the
RDEV radix tree. This still allows the new RDEV to be created,
added to the RDEV radix tree and used for the new instance of
the device, but also allows subsequent processing in HCPRFCDL
to find and delete any virtual configuration via the
existing RDEV address. After the virtual configuration
is deleted, the existing RDEV will be deleted. This will
prevent the ABENDXLK001 and ABENDPRG006 and ABENDHTT001 from
    occurring.
    ---------------
    SOLUTION 2
    ---------------
HCPRFCAD (post-processing of a CRW that adds a device to
the configuration) was modified to reset the RDEVDRAN
bit. This will allow a dump device that was deleted/added
to the configuration via CRW to be usable again.
    ---------------
    SOLUTION 3
    ---------------
HCPRFCDC was modified to check the associated base devices
of alias devices being deleted to see if they are quieseced
or enabled for Hyperswap. If they are, then the alias devices'
RDEVs are left intact so that hyperswap processing can correctly
determine the need for alias devices on the destination system.
