APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

    started. This might be unsuccessful.

    * USERS AFFECTED: 1. z/VM HCD users performing bigger *
    *                 dynamic activates                            *

    * containing processors where the *
    * processors support is not installed *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In a backout situation a OC5 might      *
    *                      occur.                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: This apar will ONLY address the inaccurate *
    * message regarding the 2 byte link address. *
    * If the processor support is not applied to *
    * the machine future activates will still be *
    * rejected. Apply the fix for this APAR AND *
    * ensure that you have the correct processor *
    * support code for your machine. *
    ****************************************************************
    1. In a backout situation usually all hardware change request
    have are rolled back in reverse order. If more then about 1000
    requests had to be backed out, the backout action failed. A
    recovery action could not solve the problem and a POR is
    needed.
    2. When the processor support PTF is not installed, an
    ACTIVATE for this processor may be rejected with message
    CBDA863I, MSGCBDA863:"Activate request contains 2-byte link
    address(es) for CU(s) <cu-list>. This is not supported by the
    active processor or OS level."In other cases, the ACTIVATE may
    complete without error message, but changes involving new
    processor features are not applied to the HSA.

Problem conclusion

  • The cause of the failed backout (addressing wrong storage) was
    fixed.
