Error description

  • A FRE016 abend can occur during pageable PGMBK processing in
HCPHRU due to an attempt to incorrectly return a block of
storage that has been misinterpreted as a PPDBK block.

A FRE016 abend from HCPHRU may occur when CP is allocating a
segment of storage.  The abend is caused when HCPHRU
attempts to return a block of storage it misinterprets
as a PPDBK due to the incorrect setting of the PGSLGRCC
bit within a pageable PGMBK.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem was corrected by adding a test to prevent setting of
the PGSLGRCC bit if the address space is a page table resource
manager (PTRM) space.  PTRM spaces are system spaces that are
used to map pageable guest PGMBKs.
