Error description

  • When running SLES10 SP1 or RHEL 5 under z/VM 5.3 or 5.2, with
more than 2GB of guest storage defined and FCP or OSA devices
attached with the Queued-I/O assist enabled (QIOASSIST), invalid
data is read from and written to the affected FCP or OSA
    devices.

Local fix

  • Attach the FCP or OSA devices with the NOQIOASSIST option.

Linux guest FCP or OSA I/O on z/VM 5.2.0 and z/VM 5.3.0 does not
    work correctly if:

      1. The Linux guest has more than 2GB of memory defined,
      2. The guest is using FCP I/O, or OSA networking in QDIO
         mode, and
      3. FCP or OSA adapters are attached to the guest without
using the NOQIOASSIST parameter in the device definition
         statement.

Known affected Linux distributions are SLES10 and RHEL 5.

Problem conclusion

  • The incorrect HCPTRANS invocation in HCPHPM was changed to
    specify a 64-bit input address.
