  *                      with product source code in ASCII, plus *
  *                      minor ASCII translate table fixes.      *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  Numerous internal changes have been made to support working
  with the product source code in ASCII or UTF-8.  In addition,
  the translate table for ASCII character constants (type CA) was
  modified to add the missing mapping from EBCDIC 037 tilde (hex
  A1) to ASCII tilde (hex 7E), and the ASCII to EBCDIC input table
  for zLinux was modified to use a mapping from ASCII 819 to
  EBCDIC 037 instead of ASCII 367 to EBCDIC 500, for consistency
  with the existing ASCII conversions. This last improvement had
  already been provisionally included in previous levels of the
  zLinux code but had not been permanently integrated into the
  product, and had not consistently been included in subsequent
  levels.
  

Problem conclusion

• HLASM has been modified to improve the compatibility of the
  source code and assembly-time processing with ASCII-based
  systems.
