Error description
SuperC ABENDing with 878 instead of returning an error code when insufficient storage is available (usually caused by the calling program not freeing memory).
Local fix
Fix the logic external to SuperC that is exhausting memory.. Or To suppress dump creation, you can set a SLIP trap which allows DAE not take multiple dumps of the same symptom. The zOS Initialization and Tuning Ref (SA22-7592-21) manual details how to enable this. Please refer to sections ADYSETxx and IEASLPxx The default IEASLPxx member already includes a SLIP command to suppress 80A abends (SLIP SET,C=80A,ID=X80A,A=(NOSVCD,NOSYSU),END) You can add a similar command for 878 dumps, for example: SLIP SET,C=878,ID=X878,A=(NOSVCD,NOSYSU),END This command would take neither SVC dumps nor SYSUDUMPs. You can also issue this command via the system console. For more information on the SLIP command, please refer to the zOS
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users for SuperC on z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Running SuperC with a limited amount * * of storage may result in ABENDs S878 * * and S80A. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A user running SuperC in an environment where there is insufficient storage for SuperC to continue may experience an ABEND S878 or S80A in SuperC. The ABEND causes the system to terminate the SuperC task.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
SuperC has been modified to return a return code 32 to the caller rather than ABENDing due to insufficient storage being available during its processing. Return code 32 is documented as SuperC's return code for insufficient storage being available to complete the request.
