  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After upgrading Apache IBM HTTP Server from V6.1 to V7.0,
    ProxyPass no longer functions as before when IBM HTTP Server
    is being being used as a reverse proxy server behind servers
    that issue HTTP headers in conjunction with interim (status
    code 100-199) responses.

Local fix

  • For relief, disable HTTP/1.1 on the backend proxy connections by
    setting the following:
    <Location /abcweb3/>
      SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1
    </Location>

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server 7.0 or 8.0 on *
    *                  z/OS systems.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ProxyPass doesn't function as in *
    * earlier versions due to response *
    * headers not getting translated from *
    *                      ebcdic to ascii.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if using IHS 7.0 or 8.0 on *
    *                  z/OS.                                       *
    ****************************************************************
    Using mod_proxy, response headers from backend servers that
    accompany interim responses (HTTP Status codes 100-199) were
    sent to the client in EBCDIC instead of ASCII. Servers that
    issue interim responses without attaching headers to them are
    not affected.

Problem conclusion

  • Translation from ebcdic to ascii is now being performed.
    This fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fixpacks:
    - 7.0.0.21
    - 8.0.0.2

Temporary fix

  • For relief, disable HTTP/1.1 on the backend proxy connections by
    setting the following:
    <Location /abcweb3/>
      SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1
    </Location>
