Error description
SMTP running normally. At some point it stops reading mail on the JES queue. Customer had SPOOLPOLLINTERVAL timer set to 10 seconds. Review of the dump showed that the JES timer control block was not re-establishing the timer.
Local fix
Raise SPOOLPOLLINTERVAL to at least the 30 second default
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the IBM Communications Server * * for z/OS Version 1 Release(s) 10, and 11 * * IP: SMTP * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SMTP stops processing mail from the JES * * spool when a timer interrupt is lost. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** SMTP stops processing mail from the JES spool when timer interrupt is lost. The SMTP configuration statement SPOOLPOLLINTERVAL sets the amount of time to wait between polling the JES queue for work. The default is 30 seconds. If this time is shortened and the SMTP task is delayed there is a small window where the timer ECB is cleared after resetting the timer. Clearing the ECB after the timer is reset can cause a timer pop to be lost and the SMTP application waits forever for the ECB to be posted again. +-------------------------------------------------------------+ + Please check our Communications Server for OS/390 homepages + + for common networking tips and fixes. Problem conclusion
SMTP code has been amended to clear the ECB prior to resetting timer. * Cross Reference between External and Internal Names EZACA027 (MVPSSIW ) EZACA027 (MVPSSIW )
