Error description

  • This problem occurs after installing PI37039/UI33308. When
running in an MGM 4-site configuration, a DASD INCRESYN SETGM
may give rc=0 but fail to enable incremental resynchronization
for devices that are part of the GDPS/GM configuration.

The DASD INCRESYN SETGM will exhibit this error when run in one
region but will work correctly when run in the other region.
The region affected depends on the order of Partner statements
    in the GEOGROUP definition.

    ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
    - GEOTRC message from VPCETAKE indicating "Contacting Kg" at
    the wrong region's Kg domain.
    - GEOTRC messages from VPCEACTA indicating that INCSET for a
device has been bypassed because the secondary is "not in
    GDPS/GM configuration".

    - Subsequent monitoring gives message GEO687E DEVICE(S) HAVE
    INVALID PPRC SYNC RELATIONSHIP

Local fix

  • Change the order of Partner statements in the GEOGROUP
definition so that the Kg of the current Local region appears
prior to the Kg of the current Remote region. Then recycle
Netview in the Local region's master Kp system, after first
ensuring there are no scripts active in any region.

Problem conclusion

  • DASD INCRESYN SETGM processing updated to select the correct Kg
    system for GDPS/GM configuration retrieval.
    MULTIPLE SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
To be immediately effective, this fix need be installed only
on the Kp system that is executing the failing script.
Eventually, the fix should be installed on the other Kp systems
    in both regions.
