APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer has a long-running task which iteratively issues
    SNMP API calls to collect MIB data. With each iteration,
    snmp_container storage is orphaned. This occurs until SNMP API
    calls start failing with SNMP_MGR_RC_OUT_OF_MEMORY (-4).
    It appears that the containers should be freed by
    snmpFreeDecodedPDU() calls but aren't because
    snmpBuildPDU() clears their oid_p and value_p pointers in the
    VarBinds array.

Local fix

  • Apply PTF or ++APAR.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Storage leak when using SNMP Manager *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The SNMP Manager API failed to free some intermediate storage
    used in creating a PDU. For a long running application this
    resulted in receiving error SNMP_MGR_RC_OUT_OF_MEMORY (-4) from
    the API requests.

Problem conclusion

  • The SNMP Manager API has been changed to free intermediate
    storage used in building PDUs for the application.
