PI40159: ABEND0C4 IN EZAFTPMF DURING PUT OF MBCS ENCODED FILE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer performed a GET for an MBCS (multibyte character set)
  encoded dataset (ENCODING MBCS) with VB record format
  containing UTF-16 data and a record of length = the maximum
  logical record length. An abend0c4 occured in EZAFTPMF during
  the GET processing causing the transmission of the file to fail.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
  * When an MBCS VB dataset with UTF-16                          *
  * and a record with length equal to the                        *
  * maximum record length is transferred                         *
  * using GET or PUT subcommands, the                            *
  * buffer to hold the data read is of                           *
  * insufficient size thus overlaying the                        *
  * buffer and causing an 0C4 abend.                             *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  * Apply PTF.                                                   *
  ****************************************************************
  FTP incorrectly calculates the size of the read buffer
  when it reads an MBCS VB dataset with UTF-16 data. When
  the record length is greater than the size of the read
  buffer, FTP can overlay the buffer.
  

Problem conclusion

• EZAFTPTO has been updated to pass the correct size of the
  read buffer to seq_read_file().
