PI22334: STACK LOOPS WHEN PROCESSING TN3270 STATEMENT ENCRYPTION WITH SEQUENCE NUMBER

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A data set with TN3270 server profile statements was
  specified on a VARY TCPIP,,OBEYFILE command to a TCP/IP
  stack by mistake.  The data set contained sequence numbers
  in columns 73-80.  While processing the statements, the
  TCP/IP stack entered a loop on an ENCRYPTION statement.
  The stack had to be cancelled to resolve the loop.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A VARY TCPIP,,OBEYFILE command was      *
  *                      mistakenly directed to a TCP/IP         *
  *                      stack instead of the TN3270 Telnet      *
  *                      server. The data set specified on       *
  *                      command contained TN3270 profile        *
  *                      statements with sequence numbers.       *
  *                      When the stack processed the            *
  *                      ENCRYPTION statement it                 *
  *                      entered a loop and had to be            *
  *                      restarted.                              *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  Even though the TN3270 server can no
  longer be started in the TCP/IP
  stack address space, the TCP/IP stack
  profile processor can still process
  the TN3270 profile statements.  The
  stack should process the statements and
  then issue message EZZ0209I indicating
  that the statements have been ignored.
  There was an error in the original
  implementation of support for the
  TN3270 ENCRYPTION profile statement.
  This error caused the stack to enter
  a loop if sequence numbers were
  specified on the statement.

Problem conclusion

• The TCP/IP stack profile processing has been
  corrected to flag sequence numbers as
  errors for the TN3270 server ENCRYPTION
