Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the PDTOOLS Common Server. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. Connections fail when the owner of * * the server contains '*' or '#' * * characters. * * 2. Diagnosis output is difficult to * * collect when a server extension does * * not connect. * * 3. When using SSL=NO, extensions may * * not receive all expected data. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** 1. The sample IPVMKDIR for customization includes commands to set the owner for the servers work directory. However, the sample job does not run correctly when the userid for the server contains special characters, which results in the server being unable to complete setup for product configurations. 2. File status and startup traces are in multiple places. 3. An API for extensions to receive messages was incorrectly updating a buffer length, possibly resulting in truncated messages being returned to the caller. Additional problem: 4. Product configurations often need to repeat data set high level qualifiers which increases the probability of a typographical error when customising.
Problem conclusion
The following updates have been made: 1. The sample IPVMKDIR has been updated to handle userids containing special characters. 2. Additional diagnostic messages have been added during server startup to confirm that pre-existing files in the WORKDIR are in the expected state. Also, the server now captures extension launch information for the JOBLOG and trace information until the extension has successfully established communications with the client. 3. The internal API has been corrected. 4. The server has been updated to support $VAR=value syntax in the configuration file. The sample IPVCONFG has been updated to include using substitution variables to reduce the need to repea data set high level qualifiers. This syntax is recognized when before the first CONFIG statement or otherwise between CONFIG and SPAWN_PARMS_SECTION statements. None of the above changes require alteration of existing configurations.
