    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: V710 Shared channels may stop retrying *
    * early. Also applies to V701 after *
    *                      applying PTF for APAR PM84391.          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A shared channel running on a V710 channel initiator may stop
    retrying before its maximum short or long retry counts are
    reached. This problem can also occur at V701 after applying
    the PTF for APAR PM84391.

    When a channel is explicitly stopped, a local channel status
    record is saved to record the new STOPPED state. When the
    channel is subsequently restarted, this status record is
    normally removed.

    For a shared channel, however, the START command may originate
    from another queue manager in the QSG. This will cause it to
    bypass the usual START CHANNEL command logic that would clear
    the STOPPED status. During retry processing, the STOPPED status
    record may cause the channel to stop automatically retrying.

    When the channel stops retrying, a CSQX534E "Channel is stopped"
    message will be seen on the channel initiator joblog.

Problem conclusion

  • Processing has been amended to ensure that a shared channel
    continues to retry until the retry count limits are reached.
