OA53762: ABEND C0D DURING CLOSE OF A VSAM DATA SET 17/09/01 PTF PEREMOVE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During close of VSAM data set, VSAM will free various control
  blocks and if they are paged fixed it will issue a PGSER
  RELEASE.
  
  In the reported case a data set that was open in LSR mode was
  being closed and the PGSER RELEASE was issued with a very large
  range - (X'00000000' to X'7C03FFFF'). This resulted in the abend
  COD and a spin loop.
  
  Other symptoms are 0C4 abends in csect IDA0192Y in load module
  IDA0192A.
  USER'S AFFECTED: This problem affects any users of LSR pools
  that specify hiperspace buffers.  This includes users of SMB
  (System managed buffering) who specify hiperspace weighted,
  SMBHWT.

  The building of hiperspace buffers in an LSR (Local Shared
  Resources) buffer pool can corrupt the resource table and cause
  abends either during clean up of a build or during deletion of
  the pool.
  

Problem conclusion

• Logic for hiperspace buffers has been corrected to add to the
  resource table correctly.
