APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• VTAM ECSA growth in TI00 and IO00 buffer pools.  Buffers are
  backed up on RSETUP HPR pipe RPN_WAIT_FOR_ACK_Q.

  * IST2218I BACKPRESSURE REASON: WAITING-FOR-ACK QUEUE MAXIMUM  *
  * REACHED on a Route Setup pipe, eventually leading to storage *
  * shortage.                                                    *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  * Apply PTF.                                                   *
  ****************************************************************
  The problem may be summarized as follows:
  1. A stray packet is mistakenly routed to a Route Setup
     pipe.
  2. The packet is sent out as an NLP over the Route
     Setup pipe.
  3. The cleanup of the packet leads to the copying
     of the packet and sends it back to the Route
     Setup pipe.
  4. Steps 2 and 3 above repeats until the wait for ack queue
     gets too long and, if the Route Setup is not taken down
     for some reason, storage shortage occurs.  ( A display of
     the Route Setup pipe will show IST2218I.)
  

Problem conclusion

• ISTRPCRT is updated to discard TSCBs that could lead to a loop.
