OA46664: IST1960I MESSAGE DISPLAYED BY D NET,RTPS MAY OMIT CPNAME IN CASEOF RSETUP PIPES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• D NET,RTPS command was entered after network problems caused
  multiple RTP pipes to fail to fully activate.   In the D
  NET,RTPS display output, many of the IST1960I messages issued
  have a blank field where the customer expects to find the CPNAME
  of the CP at the other end of the pipe.  This problem only
  affects RTP pipes using the RSETUP Class of Service.Example:

  Additional symptoms:
    Growth in the number of RSETUP HPR pipes.
    Storage growth of ECSA and VTAM private.
  

Local fix

• Use D NET,ID=CNRxxxxx command to display CPNAME of CP at
  remote end of RTP pipe.
  

Problem summary

  The problem may be summarized as follows:
  1. A Connection Setup for a RSETUP pipe is sent to VTAM.
  2. The ANR label associated with the pipe has the correct
  element address, but the wrong reuse count.
  3. The pipe is partially established, leaving it unusable and
  the D NET,RTPS output for this pipe shows no CP name.
  4. Subsequent pipes that use the correct reuse count establish
  just fine.
  5. If this occurs repeatedly, growth in the number of RSETUP
  HPR pipes cause ECSA and VTAM private storage growth.
  

Problem conclusion

• VTAM's RTP code is updated to clean up RTPs that receive
  invalid use counts.
  
  ISTRPCRT is included for maintenance purposes only.
