Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of z/OS 1.13 (HBB7780) and         *
    *                 z/OS 1.12 (HBB7770)                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: z/OS no longer limits the zAAP on zIIP *
    * function based on the number of zAAPs *
    * and/or the number of zIIPs installed on *
    * the machine. The zAAP on zIIP function *
    * continues to be limited to LPARs that *
    *                      have no zAAP.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The ZAAPZIIP (or ZZ as its alias) parameter for IEASYSxx
    (system parameter list) is used to request that the system runs
    zAAP eligible work on zIIP when certain conditions are met.
    The zAAP on zIIP function is active only when all of the
    following conditions are true:
    (a) ZAAPZIIP=YES is specified or defaulted.
    (b) There are (or could be, through dynamic CPU addition)
        zIIP(s) defined to this LPAR.
    (c) No zAAPs are defined to this LPAR, whether online, offline
        or in the reserved state.
    (d) When there is at least one zAAP installed, the number of
        installed zAAPs plus the number of installed zIIPs does not
        exceed the number of installed standard CPs.
    (e) The LPAR is allowed to find out about the presence of
        zAAPs on the entire machine (this security protocol is
        controlled by the Global Performance Data Control setting)
    Conditions (d) and (e) are now removed from z/OS.
    The zIIP/zAAP ratio will be enforced by the ordering system.

Comments

  • IRASR204 has been updated to remove the following two conditions
    when enforcing the enablement requirements for the zAAP on zIIP
    function:
    - the LPAR is allowed to find out about the presence of zAAPs
      on the machine
    - the number of zAAPs and/or zIIPs is not greater than the
      number of standard CPs.
    All of the other required conditions must still be met in order
    for the the zAAP on zIIP function to be enabled.
