Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the IBM Communications Server * * for z/OS Version 1 Release(s) 12 and 13 * * SNA DLUS function. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ECSA storage growth in the RUPECOMM * * SPANC pool with CPCBs (control block * * ID x'5F'). This is the results of an * * INOP on the DLUR/DLUS pipe stranding a * * CPCB. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The problem can be summarized as follows: 1. An INOP occurred on the route used by the DLUR/DLUS pipe. 2. In the DLUS host, ISTDECQ4 was called to process the outage and allocated a CPCB to perform the INOP processing. 3. As part of this processing ISTDECF7 issued message IST1416I ID = DLUR_CP_name FAILED -- RECOVERY IN PROGRESS. This could be seen on the console log as IST619I, if MSGLEVEL=BASE was used. 4. Then ISTDECQ4 issued message IST1414I SESSION OUTAGE - REDIAL NOT ATTEMPTED FOR DLUR_PU_name 5. When the INOP processing was complete, the CPCB was not freed if it was allocated for an outage on the DLUR/DLUS pipe. This is an example of the CPCB that was not freed. Note that the CPCBOPC at offset x'1C' is x'00030004': +000 5F0A4000 00000000 00000000 00000000 *¬. ............. +010 00000000 00000000 00000000 00030004 *................ +020 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 *................ +030 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 *................ +040 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 *................
Problem conclusion
ISTDECQ4 has been changed to issue a CPRESP macro to post back and free the CPCB allocated to process the INOP on the DLUR/DLUS pipe.
