APAR status

Error description

  • External Symptoms:
A TCP FCT abended which resulted in a dump of the JES3 address
space. This was not enough information to diagnose the problem.
A dump of the NETSERV address space was also needed but
was not generated with the TCP FCT abend.

    Impact to customer:
     Unable to diagnose the problem

    Analysis:

This RAS APAR is being taken to dump the JES3 address space and
the associated NETSERV address space when a TCP FCT abends.

The projected closing code is PER for HJS7770, HJS7780, and
    HJS7790.

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
A user experienced a problem with a TCP DSP (Dynamic Service
Program) that resulted in an abend. As part of the DSP's
recovery processing, an SVC dump of the JES3, JES3AUX, and
JESXCF address spaces was obtained. This data, however, did
not provide enough information to diagnose the problem.
A dump of the NETSERV address space associated with the TCP
    DSP is required.

Problem conclusion

  • Installation On (Global)
                 Order (Any)

                 Type/JES3 restart (Hot)

                 CLPA (No)
    (See Apar II07968 for definitions)

Module IATNTTDR was modified to supply the information required
to dump the NETSERV address space associated with a failing TCP
DSP. Module IATFSLG was changed to include a message in the
failsoft banner when an associated remote dump is requested.
Module IATABLG, the failsoft logout area formatter, was changed
to display the associated dump message. Also, the IATYFSL
macro was changed to include a new formatting flag for the
    associated dump message.

Module IATABLG is a full source replacement.

Note: If the Netserv associated with the failing TCP DSP is
running on the JES3 global, the Netserv address space is
included in the same SVC dump as the JES3, JES3AUX, and
JESXCF address spaces. If the Netserv is running on a local,
then an SVC dump of the Netserv is obtained on the local in
addition to the dump obtained on the global. Both dumps
will have the same dump title.

indicated below. Updates will only be made to the manuals

    JES3 Messages

For message IAT3713, add a line to the explanation section
after the line for the IAT3729 message:

Also, add the following lines to the section describing the
    information provided in the message:

      Sxxx or Uyyy or DMzzz
Failure code where Sxxx is a system completion
code, Uyyy is a user completion code, and DMzzz
is a JES3 diagnostic message code. See z/OS
JES3 Diagnosis for explanation of the DM codes.

      ACTIVE FCT=dspname
The name of the function control table that was
active at the time of the failure

    | ASSOCIATED REMOTE DUMP: ASID=rasn ON rsys
    | The ASID of a dump requested on the specified
    | local system.

    Modify the System Action section:

    | System Action: JES3 may or may not obtain a dump of
    | the failing address space and the other associated
    | address spaces. The WANTDUMP= parameter on the OPTIONS
    | initialization statement determines if a dump should be
    | taken. If WANTDUMP=ASK, the operator is asked if a dump
    | should be obtained, and JES3 will not reinstate the DSP
    | until the operator responds. If WANTDUMP=NO, JES3 will
    | not dump the address space(s) and will attempt to
    | reinstate the DSP. If WANTDUMP=YES, JES3 will dump
    | address space(s) and will attempt to reinstate the DSP.

    Modify the Problem Determination section:

      Problem determination:  See Table I items 2,16;
Table III items 1 or 2 or 3, and items 4 and 7. Also,
    | collect any other related information. This should
    | include the dump(s) obtained on the current and remote
    | systems.
