APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Application is invoked from the primary menu (via a TSO command)
and performs a number of CONTROL DISPLAY SAVE ISPF calls
followed by a greater number of CONTROL DISPLAY RESTORE calls.
Eventually ISPF experiences ABEND0C4 in ISPDTD on return from a
TBDISPL service call.
MSGISPP147 is not being issued reliably.

Local fix

  • Correct the application so that each CONTROL DISPLAY SAVE is
balanced with a single matching CONTROL DISPLAY RESTORE.

Application invokes CONTROL DISPLAY SAVE and RESTORE. However
the calls are not paired - extra RESTORE calls are made.
ISPF restores a display environment not associated with table
operations and a null pointer is referenced.

Problem conclusion

  • ISPF is changed to use an extra indicator to identify
application use of CONTROL DISPLAY SAVE/RESTORE to distinguish
from ISPF internal calls. The application is prevented from
restoring an invalid environment.
