Error description

  • For a striped data set, media manager IO request is reported as
    complete before all of the CIs processed.   The data set must
    consist of 2 or more stripes and the IO request must read or
    update write a large number of discontiguous CIs (in excess of
    100 CIs).
    There is no data loss, rebuilding the index allows access
    to all the data.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 R10 users who have DB2 table spaces  *
    *                 which are striped.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DB2 R10 altered its use of Media        *
    *                      Manager.  This change exposed a defect  *
    *                      in Media Manager which caused a Media   *
    *                      Manager IO request to indicate          *
    *                      completion before all the requested IO  *
    *                      had been issued. To experience this     *
    *                      failure, the data set must be striped   *
    *                      and the IO request must access a large  *
    *                      number of CIs.                          *
    *                      In this failure case, the number        *
    *                      of CIs accessed on a single stripe      *
    *                      exceeded 100.  These CIs were each      *
    *                      discontiguous on the stripe.  If the    *
    *                      CIs are contiguous on a stripe, a       *
    *                      larger number of CIs can be processed   *
    *                      before encountering the error.  For     *
    *                      zHPF IO IBM believes that the exposure  *
    *                      does not exist.                         *
    *                      DB2 R9 and below are not exposed.       *
    *                      Other users of Media Manager, such as   *
    *                      VSAM, are not exposed.                  *
