APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When DWACT=YES or DWINOP=YES, redial attempts for an EE PU
    continue indefinitely, even though a finite number of redial
    attempts is coded on the REDIAL parameter.

Local fix

  • Issue VARY INACT for switched PU to terminate redial attempts.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All using Enterprise Extender connections. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: VTAM attempts to redial forever when *
    * a specific number of REDIAL attempts *
    *                      were coded.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The problem is summarized as follows:
    1) DWINOP=YES is specified on an Enterprise Extender switched PU
       and REDIAL=3 and REDDELAY=30 are specified on the associated
       PATH statement. This will cause the connection to be retried
       if a PU INOP occurs.
    2) The partner host is IPLed.
    3) VTAM detects the outage and attempts to redial the EE
       partner. Eventually, the dial fails and another redial
       attempt is scheduled.
    4) A logic error occurs such that the number of redial attempts
       is not being decremented. VTAM's recovery attempts are
       behaving as if REDIAL=FOREVER is coded.

Problem conclusion

  • ISTACCP5 - Code has been changed to insure the PATRDDEC
               field is decremented each time a redial
               occurs for a switched EE PU.
