OA31948: APPLICATION HUNG IN PDELR STATE DURING CLOSE ACB.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• APPL hung in PDELR state. CLOSE ACB hang.
  Dump shows that CLOSE is waiting for a DELETENR from a same
  domain application.  LUCUSECT is greater than 3. The FMCB
  and FMCB Ext are left stranded and are not freed.
  FFST probe ISTNAC01 may occur.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Application hangs PDELR after UNBIND    *
  *                      of a pending active session.            *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  The problem may be summarized as follows:
  1. An application has received a BIND in its SCIP exit.
  2. The application issues CLOSE ACB.
  3. VTAM begins UNBIND processing to take down the session.
  4. One VTAM process (TSIP) sends an UNBIND response to
     another process (TSOP), but suspends before it can change
     the status of the session to pending reset.
  5. When the TSOP processes the UNBIND response, it checks the
     session status and, since it is not pending reset, TSOP
     discards the UNBIND response.  This prevents the FMCB
     and FMCB extension from being freed.
  6. Later, the TSIP resumes and changes the session status to
     pending reset.
  7. The application may hang in PDELR and FFST probe ISTNACTT
     may occur.  Other applications may also hang in PDELR.
  

Problem conclusion

• ISTTSCIS has been updated to ensure the state of the
  session is pending reset before the UNBIND response
  is queued to the TSOP.
