OA31921: EZBXFPDX S4C5/77620405 ABEND AND MESSAGE EZZ9674E AFTER PREVIOUS ABEND IN SYSPLEXPORTS PROCESSING CODE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• TCPIP is using a DVIPA with SYSPLEXPORTS configured.  An
  application makes a request to use this DVIPA, which requires a
  port from the EZBEPORT structure in the coupling facility.
  TCPIP calls VTAM to access the structure on the applications
  unit of work.  If the application unit of work is cancelled or
  terminated while holding a lock to the EZBEPORT structure, the
  VTAM recovery routine does not release this lock during
  recovery.  The next requestor for this lock will suspend until
  the TCPIP stack is recycled.  This requestor may be on the same
  TCPIP stack or other TCPIP stacks in the sysplex group.  TCP/IP
  requestor's will issue message EZZ9674E after the SYSPLEXMONITOR
  TIMERSECS interval has expired.  If RECOVERY is coded on
  SYSPLEXMONITOR, a 4C5 abend with reason code 77620405 will be
  issued.

  ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
  Abend S522 in FTPD job or other jobs requesting sysplexports
  after the 4C5 abends occur.

  A dump of the 522 which includes VTAM private and the user
  address space will show a RPH waiting on the VTAM coupling
  facility lock in the SSV object.

  This problem may be described as follows:
    1. FTP requested to use DVIPA to TCPIP. It required EZBEPORT
       structure in the coupling facility.
    2. TCPIP called VTAM CFS to access EZBEPORT structure.
    3. ISTFSVPC received control to process the TCPIP request.
       It obtained the VTAM SSV structure list number lock. It
       also obtained the MVS CFS IXLLIST listnum lock to
       serialize the process.
    4. The operator cancelled the FTP Job. FTP Job terminated
       with the abend222.
    5. ISTAPCFR received control to process the abend222. It did
       not release the VTAM SSV structure and MVS CFS IXLLIST
       list num lock.
    6. TCPIP called VTAM CFS again to access the EZBEPORT
       structure in the coupling facility.
    7. ISTFSVPC received control to process the request of step 6.
       It tried to obtain the VTAM SSV structure list number lock.
       VTAM suspended this process to wait for a VTAM SSV
       structure list num lock. This caused a hang in VTAM for the
       VTAM SSV structure list number lock.
  

Problem conclusion

• ISTRPH has been changed to define RPH_CFS_SSVLOCK indicator.
  ISTCRA has been changed to define the CRA_CFS_SSVSTR address
  and CRA_SSV_Lockindex numerical value.
  ISTSVSPL has been changed to define SVSPL_FREE_LISTNUM and
  SVSPL_FREELOCK_LEN numerical values.
  ISTCFSPL has been changed to define CFSPLTYPEFREELOCK as
  the constant value of free SSV structure lock.
  
  CFSSSVPB has been changed to obtain the SSV structure storage
  in CSA.
  ISTFSVLG has been changed to set RPH_CFS_SSVLOCK after
  obtaining a VTAM CFS SSV lock.
  
  ISTAPCFR has been changed to check the RPH for CFS SSV lock.
  If the RPH indicates that CFS SSV lock is held, then it TPQUEs
  a CFSPL to the CFS connection services PAB.
  ISTFSNRT has been changed to call Freelock method to free VTAM
  SSV lock and release the IXLLIST list num lock under CFS
  connection services PAB.
  ISTFSVLF has been changed to clear RPH_CFS_SSVLOCK indicator
  after releasing IXLLIST list num lock and VTAM CFS SSV lock.
  
  ISTFSVPC vrr routine has been changed to check the RPH for CFS
  SSV lock. If the RPH indicates that CFS SSV lock is held, then
  it calls Freelock method to free VTAM CFS SSV lock and release
  the IXLLIST list num lock.
  
  ISTFSVSD has been recompiled to use the updated code of the
  macro CFSSSVPB.
