Error description

  • IDCAMS DELETE MASK TSO Support. New functio to support TSO usage
    of DELETE MASK introduced in z/OS V1R11. The entry name is
    interpreted as a MASK to select catalog entries for deletion.
    Non-use of qoutes around the entry name does not cause
    the user ID to be prefixed since the entry is a MASK and
    and not an entry name.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of HDZ1B10 using DELETE MASK with *
    * TSO and wanting to use filter wild cards %, *
    * **, or * preceded or followed by characters. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: With the IDCAMS DELETE command, TSO *
    * parses the first operand as a data set *
    * name. Only an * can be specified as a *
    * wildcard, and it must be preceded by a *
    *                      period (.) and followed by a period     *
    *                      or a blank. Use of %, ** or * preceded  *
    * or followed by characters results in *
    *                      an error.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Summary: TSO parses the first operand of the DELETE MASK
    command as a data set name disallowing the use of filter key
    wildcards.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The first operand of the DELETE MASK command is now parsed as a
    string. This allows the use of filter key operands %, *, and **.
    Because the operand is parsed as a string, the user ID is not
    added to the front of the operand when quotes are not present.
