OA05493: IEC032I E37-08 IFG0554P DURING EXTEND WHEN DUPLICATE DD STATEMENTS IN SAME STEP

Obtain the fix for this APAR.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• While processing a job step that has duplicate DDNAMES coded and
  at least one of the DDNAMES points to a JES data set (SYSIN,
  SYSOUT, etc.) an extend failure can occur.  This error occurs
  when the non-JES data set is attempting to extend to a second
  volume and this candidate volume was not resolved to a specific
  volser prior to the step beginning.  The error recieved is:

Local fix

• - Remove or rename one of the DDNAMEs
  - Use guaranteed space to ensure a real volser is assigned to
    the candidate volumes

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  The logic that verifies and captures UCB addresses incorrectly
  processed the duplicate DD name, even though it was physically
  after the original DD name.  If that duplicate name references a
  JES data set (e.g. SYSIN or SYSOUT), there is no UCB associated
  with it, hence the failure.
  

Problem conclusion

• The logic has been changed to only verify the first DD it finds
  with the matching name, according to documented rules for
  processing DD statements.  However, it is strongly recommended
  customers remove duplicate DD statements.
  

Temporary fix

• Please apply ++APAR and provide feedback.
