IZ82489: ALT_DISK_COPY 0516-014 & 0516-822 WARNING WHEN USING IMAGE.DATA APPLIES TO AIX 5300-10

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• if /image.data contains LV_SOURCE_DISK_LIST= hdiskX
  Executing command: /usr/sbin/alt_disk_copy -i
  "/image.data" -P "all" -B -d "hdiskXY"
  Will output Warning messages like :
  0516-014 lquerypv: [hdiskX]: The physical volume appears
  to belong to another volume group.
  0516-822 mklv: Unable to create logical volume.
  Warning: mklv unable to create logical volume xxx on
  disk(s) hdiskX, as specified in the image.data file.The
  location for this logical volume will be handled by the
  mklv command.
  

Local fix

• Don't use the image.data
  Or empty LV_SOURCE_DISK_LIST in image.data
  

Problem summary

• When doing an alt_disk_{copy,mksysb} with both an image.data
  provided with the -i flag and a list of target disks with the
  -d flag, we attempt to create a LV on the incorrect disks
  if one of LV disks (as listed in the image.data by the
  LV_SOURCE_DISK_LIST field) is a substring of a target disk.
  
  A similar error message will be displayed:
  0516-014 lquerypv:  hdiskX : The physical volume appears
  to belong to another volume group.
  0516-822 mklv: Unable to create logical volume.
  Warning: mklv unable to create logical volume xxx on
  disk(s) hdiskX, as specified in the image.data file.The
  location for this logical volume will be handled by the
  mklv command.
  

Problem conclusion

• Match the entire disk name.
