IZ81641: DUMP TO QLOGIC FC DEVICES WILL FAIL ON 61 TL 4 & TL 5 APPLIES TO AIX 5300-12

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Dump to Qlogic FC adapter attached devices will fail with
  EIO (dump failure return code of 4) On 61 TL 4 & TL 5
  

Local fix

• use a non-qlogic dump devices (internal SAS/ Emulex FC)
  

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED:
  * Users of the QLogic Fiber Channel adapter running the 5300-12
  * Technology Level with the devices.pci.77102224.com fileset at
  * the 5.3.12.0 or 5.3.12.1 level.
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  * If an attempt is made to dump to a disk attached via a QLogic
  * FC adapter, the dump will fail, resulting in an invalid
  * partial dump.
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:
  * Install APAR IZ81641.
  ****************************************************************
  

Problem conclusion

• The QLogic FC/FCoE adapter driver is fixed to properly
  update the adapter's I/O queue data structure to prevent
  the adapter from thinking the queue is full.
