APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • when an MPIO device has 2 paths and each is using a
    different adapter and the disk is currently part of
    A VG that is varied on, if one adapter is placed in a
    defined state and the max_xfer_sized increased, and
    cfgmgr run to bring the adapter and path back online,
    cfgmgr may failed to add the path back into the
    MPIO device.
    
    The error may look similar to this one:
    
    [root@lpa-testdhts05:/] # cfgmgr
    Method error (/etc/methods/cfgscsidisk -l hdisk4 ):
            0514-040 Error initializing a device into the
    kernel.
    

Local fix

  • change the max_xfer using the -P flag and reboot
    

Problem summary

  • The disk max_tranfer size is increased above the size mentioned
    in the ODM, when the disk is open. Adding path would fail.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The disk max_transfer size is not allowed to increase more
    than ODM's value, when the disk is open.
