Error description
On a VIO server, large_receive setting on the adapter is ON by default but its OFF by default on the Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA). Normally this results in LRO being off for the system. However when an etherchannel is used instead of a stand alone adapter even if LRO settings are off on SEA it can result in large_receive being performed contrary to documentation.
Local fix
Disable LRO off on the real adapter explicitly. Remove the adapter from the Ethchan config to change this and add back to Ethchan.
Problem summary
When SEA is created over etherchannel, the LRO setting (off by default for SEA) doesn't propogate to the underlying physical adapters.
Problem conclusion
Etherchannel driver should propogate the LRO settings to the underlying adapters.
Temporary fix
