Error description

  • The snap -D command may leave temporary files in /dev.
    
    When executing the snap -D command on a system where
    there
    is a saved system dump, temporary device files whose
    names are
    "<dump device name><XXXXXX>" will be created.
    
    # ls -l /dev | grep sysdump01
    crw-rw---- 1 root system 10, 11 Jul 30 20:48 rsysdump01
    brw-rw---- 1 root system 10, 11 Jul 30 20:48 sysdump01

    These temporary files will not be cleared up.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • readlvcopy doesn't clean up it's temporary file if terminated
    prematurely.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Add signal handling in readlvcopy to clean up temporary file.
