IZ46137: NIMINIT DOES NOT PASS THE CORRECT NETBOOT_KERNEL VALUE APPLIES TO AIX 5300-08
A fix is available
Closed as program error.
When we have NIM server at AIX level 6.1 and NIM clients at AIX 5.3 and 5.2. Niminit command does not pass the correct netboot_kernel value. For example on 5.2 and 5.3 clients Using smitty niminit we fill out the client name, network install Interface and master and leave the kernel as "mp" We see that it does not pass the -k flag to the niminit command, and hence the client is configured as netboot_kernel = 64 on the NIM master.
Workaround is to use niminit command manually and pass the "-k" flag.
The smit menu field for choosing a network boot kernel is now a reuired field so that the specified kernel will be used when creating the NIM client machine.
The AIX releases prior to AIX61 can use up, mp, and 64bit kernels for network booting as a NIM client. This is now enforced from the smit NIM init client menus where before the AIX 61 master would default to 64 bit kernel.
