APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• named8 may start using fixed source port numbers even
  with
  port randomization being used. This occurs only when it
  gets the same port number twice in spite of
  randomization.
  Once this occurs, the port number remains same until
  named8 is restarted.
  
  # tcpdump -v -n dst port 53
  will show all the outgoing queries from named to root
  servers using the same fixed port number.
  

Local fix

• Restart named8 when it starts using fixed ports.
  

Problem summary

• named8 starts using same port numbers for different queries.
  

Problem conclusion

• The randomization technique improved so that the same port
  number is not used repeatedly.
