Error description

    * USERS AFFECTED:
    * Systems running the AIX 7200-01 Technology Level
    * with bos.mp64 at the 7.2.1.3 level and below.
      **************************************************************
    * ERROR DESCRIPTION:
    * If procfs /proc/<pid>/fd/ directory is accessed for a
    * process that uses many file descriptors, the LPAR my crash
    * due to bad values in the application stack data.
    * This occurs when the application closes many file
    * descriptors all at once while at the same time the procfs
    * data in /proc/<pid>/fd/ is being accessed.
    *
    * This has been most commonly seen when the 'fuser' command is
    * run while an application is running that opens and closes
    * many files during its execution.
    * The crash can have varied symptoms, but in one common case
    * the stack looks like:
    * (0)> f
    * pvthread+018000 STACK:
    * 000039B4 .sys_call_ret+000078 ()
    * 00003958 .sys_call_ret+00001C ()
      **************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:
    * Install APAR IV95590.
    * Prior to fix availability, an interim fix is available from
    * either
    * ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv95590/
    * https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv95590/
    * The ifix can be installed using Live Update (LU).
    * If LU is not used, installation of the ifix requires a
    * reboot.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • System crash with following stack:
    (0)> f
    pvthread+018000 STACK:
     000039B4 .sys_call_ret+000078 ()
     00003958 .sys_call_ret+00001C ()
    uninitialized stack variable content access to write
    reulted in corruption of mst/other u-block area.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Change the code to avoid this corruption.
