APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A perfectly working PowerHA cluster (712 or 713) has
AIX upgraded to 7.1 TL4 or 7.2. Now every attempt to
Verify and Synchronize gets these error messages --

ERROR: New node_timeout value 20000 ms is not at least
 10000 ms greater than network_fdt 20000 ms
ERROR: Failed to change tunable node_timeout.
...
cldare: Error detected during synchronization.

and the Verify and Synchronize operation fails.

Local fix

  • Change the Node Failure Detection Timeout to 30 or more.

Problem summary

  • A perfectly working PowerHA cluster (712 or 713) has
AIX upgraded to 7.1 TL4 or 7.2. Now every attempt to
Verify and Synchronize gets these error messages --

ERROR: New node_timeout value 20000 ms is not at least

ERROR: Failed to change tunable node_timeout.

and the Verify and Synchronize operation fails.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified the code to pass allowed node_timeout
values to CAA to avoid verify & sync failures.
