Error description

  • ***************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED:
    * Systems running rsct.core.utils 3.2.0.6 through 3.2.0.9.
    * This includes AIX 6.1 TL9 SP5, and AIX 7.1 TL3 SP5 and SP6.
    * Customers running AIX 7.1 TL4 or 7.2 are not affected.
    ***************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    * Starting in rsct.core.utils 3.2.0.6, trace corruption has
    * the potential to lead to increased CPU usage, code deadlock
    * affecting daemon-to-daemon responsiveness, and possibly
    * other yet-to-be-determined functional issues. The odds of
    * corruption are not high, but the outcome is unpredictable.
    *
    * For customers using PowerHA SystemMirror v7, or Tivoli
    * System Automation for Multi-Platform, the code deadlock case
    * can lead to a daemon unresponsive declaration and node panic,
    * with the panic string showing "RSCT reboot caused by critical
    * resource protection - Group Services"
    ***************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:
    * IV77384 is officially fixed in rsct.core.utils 3.2.0.10,
    * which is available in AIX 6.1 TL9 SP6, and will also be
    * available in AIX 7.1 TL3 SP7.
    * An interim fix for AIX 6.1 TL9 SP5 and 7.1 TL3 SP5 and SP6
    * is available from:
    * https://ibm.biz/PowerHAFixes
    ***************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • Handling of trace corruption has been corrected.
    (Corruption of traces can still occur, but will have no
    other impact besides the corrupted trace being unreadable.)
