Error description

  • On AIX 6.1 TL09 SP4, "export LANG=Ja_JP" in script is not
effective.

aix50:root> unset LANG
aix50:root> . ./outer.sh
ksh: 0403-057 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX : 'AAAAAAAA' unexpected
              ^^^|^^^^^^^^^^^^   ~~~~~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~
   This characters are garbled. The multibyte character.

NOTE: inner.sh includes Japanese characters.

On AIX 6.1 TL8 SP3 no such problem!!

Local fix

  • - Run export LANG=Ja_JP from command line before running
outer.ksh
- Don't use dot command in outer.ksh
