Error description

  • In a clustered lvm environment, when one node is
running 7100-03-04, and other node(s) are at prior
    levels...
Running mklv on one of the nodes at a prior level
will cause the 7100-03-04 system to crash with
    this stack:
    KDB(0)> f
    pvthread+014100 STACK:
    Ý05C6E56C¨hd_nearby+00032C (0000000000006C75, F1000A01C0AF0E88,
    0000000000000000, 00000000000363A8, 0000000000006C75 Ý??¨)
    Ý05C6828C¨hd_parallel_read+00020C (??, ??, ??)
    ...
    .
This is because the 7100-03-04 node mis-interprets a structure
passed to it from the node at a prior level, which very likely
leads to a crash when I/O occurs at a later stage in the mklv
    process.

Local fix

  • To avoid crash make sure nodes in cluster are at the same
    aix release level.

Problem summary

  • When LVM passes data between nodes in a concurrent VG, if one
node is at 7100-03-04 and other nodes are not, if mklv is run
on the nodes with older code, the node at 7100-03-04 will
misinterpret data sent to it during the mklv, and crash.

Problem conclusion

  • Correct the data structure used to pass information between
nodes so crash cannot occur even in a mixed level environment.

Temporary fix
