APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If there are multiple adapters in use to provide paths to an
hdisk, and the hdisk is opened while the LUN is unmapped from
one of those adapters (thus returning 05/2500 SCSI sense),
then the AIX MPIO code may recover the path too quickly after
the open. This could lead to the PCM selecting that unusable
path, and possibly having the path fail and recover repeatedly.

Problem summary

  • If there are multiple adapters in use to provide paths to an
hdisk, and the hdisk is opened while the LUN is unmapped from
one of those adapters (thus returning 05/2500 SCSI sense),
then the AIX MPIO code may recover the path too quickly after
the open. This could lead to the PCM selecting that unusable
path, and possibly having the path fail and recover repeatedly.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified SCSI disk driver to properly report status of a path
open when the storage device returns 05/2500 sense data to
    the Test Unit Ready command.
