Problem summary

  • nmon displays -INF when nmon executed as below.

    /usr/bin/nmon -fdWATKVªLPMS -s 30 -c 120

many of the JFSINODE lines contain an extraneous "-INF"
    at the end as follows:
    JFSINODE,T0034,5.9,0.8,21.8,5.3,0.0,0.0,4.9,0.0,0.0,0.0,0.0,
    0.2,0.8,0.0,0.0,0.0,-INF
    JFSINODE,T0035,5.9,0.8,21.8,5.3,0.0,0.0,4.9,0.0,0.0,0.0,0.0,
    0.2,0.8,0.0,0.0,0.0,-INF

This causes problems collection and monitoring of the files.

Problem conclusion

  • -INF was already fixed in latest AIX releases.
With that fix -INF issue was resolved but instead of actual
values zero were displayed for file system inodes.
After further analysis we found that there are around 6 billion
files in the file system. As we used 32bit statfs structure,
values were overflowed and zero's were displayed. To fix this
issue we have to change 32bit statfs to 64bit statfs64.
